Several years ago~~~
I’m living in an orphanage. But inside here’s full of fun. You’ll have lots of good friends. You’ll know how to socialize properly, how to play chess, and learn moral lessons. One day…
“Joanna! Do you know how to catch well?” My friend teased me, since I’m not really good in sports, mostly when the sport needs a ball
“Stop it! I mean it, I’m not really good in sports. But I dare you, I will beat you in our Chess Class later! (Laughs)”
“C’mon, you’re the Grand Master here! Don’t dare me!”
“(Laughs) See, you can’t beat me in---“ then the ball hit me so hard on my face. My friend didn’t tell me she was going to throw the ball. And I fell down on the ground. Everyone approached me, even this strict, snobbish, oldest orphan who is senior to me by 5 years, and also stand as our Guardian (Everyone inside the Orphanage is so scared of him).
“What happened to her?” The oldest orphan asked
“I’m so sorry Sir (that’s how ‘we’ call him, actually he doesn’t like to be call like that, we just want to) It’s not really my intention to hit her that hard---“
“Enough. Go to the Disciplinary Room (A Guidance Room-like place).”
That guy is SUPER strict. He’s so scary. By the way, the ball really hit me so hard. I almost become unconscious of what’s happening around me… until I heard a voice, a very gentle, pleasant, and lovely voice… the voice said:
“Please take care of her. I would really blame myself if something happens to her”
Oh, I want to see where the voice came from. But I can’t open my eyes… After I fell asleep for almost 5 hours, I felt that someone’s holding my hand, I opened my eyes, and saw him…
“Wait a minute---“
“Oh, Joanna, you’re already awake. Are you feeling well?”
No way, the voice I heard lately is coming from the strict guy!
“Wait, wait, it can’t be! How can a snob like you have that kind of captivating voice?” And I immediately covered my mouth. Oh no, please, not the Disciplinary Room…
“(Laughs) I know it already. Everyone’s scared of me because they thought I’m super strict and a snob. But I just act like that because I want to discipline all of you and learn to be obedient.”
“Oh, really? So you’re not going to send me to the Disciplinary Room, Sir?”
“Of course not. Do you want to?”
“NO! Please, no. I don’t want, Sir”
“Oh c’mon, don’t call me Sir, my name is Tom”
“Tom?” His name is Tom. I want to laugh so hard not because of his name but because it was the first time someone knows what was his real name (Cause everyone’s calling him Sir)
“Yeah, Tom, so Sir isn’t my name okay? Or else, I will send you to D.R.”
“Okay Si---I mean, Tom (Laughs)”
He also laughs. Oh my God. He’s so cute when he’s laughing. Tom is so different from Sir. I never thought he had this nice side. Oh, before I forgot, he’s still holding my hand---no way---why my heart beating so fast?
“Um… I forgot, your hand---“
“Oh, I’m sorry I---“ And then he smiles, so do I… And we have this eye to eye contact---
My heart beats faster. Maybe yeah… I think… I already liked him. But it can’t be. He’s 5 years older than me and---
“Joanna”
He hugged me when he said my name. I froze. I don’t know what to do… I mean---
“I know it’s already too late to tell you this… but I--- I like you from the first time we met each other”
He’s still hugging me. I still don’t know what to do. No, I did something--- I smile
“Tom--- you know what, you made me change my impression on you…”
“Really?”
“Yeah, now I know how caring you are. And how responsible you are”
“Oh, thanks. I’m complimented.” He smiles again.
Then someone surprisingly entered the clinic, so Tom immediately stays away from Me.
“Hey Joanna, are you alright now?” Oh, it’s my friend who hit me so hard “I’m sorry about what happen---“ I think she saw Tom that’s why she stopped “Oh, sorry Sir---“
“It’s Tom” I told her
“Oh? Tom?”
“Yeah---“ Another eye to eye contact between me and Tom. And we both laughed
(Sighs) It was one of the days I will never forget. Tom is surprisingly become my best friend, and boy friend, and years later, he become my lovely and supportive husband. I wish I can go back to those days I spent with him when we’re still in Orphanage…
